May’s theme inside the membership is the splits journey, Hanumanasana.
It’s one of those poses that many people feel curious about, but also slightly unsure of. Some see it as something to work towards, others feel it’s completely out of reach, and some avoid it altogether. And all of that is completely understandable.
Because when we think of splits, we often imagine the final shape. Legs fully extended, hips low, everything looking very open and flexible. It can feel like an “all or nothing” kind of pose. But this month isn’t about that. It’s about the journey towards it. Because the real work doesn’t happen in the final position. It happens in everything that leads up to it. The preparation, the small improvements, the way the body responds over time. That’s where the value is.
Most of us don’t need to “achieve” the splits. What we often need is more space in the hips, more length through the back of the legs, and a bit more strength to support those ranges. That’s what we’ll be focusing on this month. You’ll be working with the hamstrings, the hip flexors, and the glutes. These areas play a big role in how the body moves, not just in yoga, but in everyday life as well. If the hamstrings feel tight, simple things like bending forward can feel restricted. If the hip flexors are tight, it can affect how you stand, walk, or even how your lower back feels. So even if the splits itself isn’t your goal, the work we’re doing around it is still very useful.
One thing I’d like you to keep in mind is that flexibility doesn’t come from forcing the body into deeper positions. It builds over time. Through repetition. Through patience. Through allowing the body to adapt gradually.
You might notice that some days feel more open than others. That’s completely normal. Progress isn’t always linear, and it doesn’t need to be.
What matters more is that you keep showing up.
This month, you’ll also see that we’re not just stretching. Strength is just as important. The glutes help support the hips. The core helps stabilise the pelvis. Without that support, flexibility can feel unstable or uncomfortable. So the sessions are designed to balance both. Opening and strengthening, moving and pausing.
There’s also a 7-day splits challenge starting on the 11th. This is simply a more structured way to focus on the same areas, with short, targeted sessions that build on each other. You can follow it day by day, or spread it out if that works better for you. It’s there to give you a bit of direction and consistency, not to create pressure. You don’t have to go as far as possible in each session. You don’t need to push through discomfort. What matters is how it feels in your body. Join the challenge.
Some days you might stay higher in the pose, using blocks or cushions for support. Other days you might feel a little more open. Both are part of the process. And even stepping back slightly can be helpful. Giving the body time to recover is part of progress.
By the end of the month, you might notice changes. The hamstrings feel a bit longer. The hips feel a bit more open. The movement feels a bit easier.
You may or may not get closer to the full splits, and that’s completely fine. Because the goal isn’t the pose itself. It’s the way your body feels along the way.
If you’re already a member, you can start with the May calendar and take it at your own pace. Follow the challenge if you’d like a bit more structure, or move through the sessions in a way that suits your week.
If you’re not yet a member, this is a really nice month to join. Everything is built step by step, and the sessions are designed to be approachable, even if you’re just starting out. You can try it all with a 5-day free trial and see how it feels.
This month, we’re taking our time. No rushing. No forcing. Just steady, supported progress. And that’s usually where the real change happens. 🧘🏻♀️
Best wishes,
Ayse
